His father, Rajesh Pilot was a Member of Parliament and Union Minister in Congress Government. In 2000, Pilot’s father died in a car accident near Jaipur.

On 15 January 2004, Pilot married Sara Abdullah who is the daughter of Farooq Abdullah who is the chairman of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. They have two sons (Aaran and Vehaan).

After the death of his father, the INC party gave Sachin Pilot the ticket of Member of Parliament from Dausa constituency in 2004. He won in 2004 Lok Sabha elections and became the youngest MP at the age of 26.

Later on, in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he won the seat of the Ajmer constituency. Not only he became an MP, but he was also a Member of the Lok Sabha’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs and a member of the Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Soon, in 2012 he became the Minister of Corporate Affairs. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he lost the MP seat of Ajmer by a large margin. However, he was appointed as the President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee in the same year.

In the 2018 Legislative Assembly elections, he won the MLA seat from Tonk. At present, he is an MLA from the Tonk constituency.

When INC won the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections, there were many rumors that Pilot will be the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. But Ashok Gehlot took the charge as Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Sachin Pilot was made Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. However in July 2020, Sachin Pilot dropped off the seat of deputy CM.

Commissioned in Army

On 6 September 2012, Sachin Pilot became the first Union Minister of India commissioned as an officer in the Indian Territorial Army. He is also known as Lieutenant Pilot for being an Army Officer. Soon after being commissioned, he said ” It was a dream for me to join Indian Army Forces just like my father and grandfather. I am honored to be a part of this family.”

Controversies

  • 2020 Rajasthan Political Crisis [Source]

In July 2020, Sachin Pilot along with 18 MLAs went to Delhi claiming that they have the support of 30 MLAs and they can collapse the Ashok Gehlot-led Government. Gehlot contacted senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to handle the situation and slamming the BJP for trying to demolish the government.

On 14 July 2020, Sachin Pilot was removed from posts of Deputy CM and President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. At that time, rumors floated that Sachin Pilot can join BJP just like Jyotiraditya Scindia in Madhya Pradesh. Later on, Pilot cleared all rumors stating that he will continue to be a part of the Congress Party.

Also, Ashok Gehlot alleged BJP for horse-trading in Rajasthan. Due to this, Gehlot shifted his MLAs from Jaipur to Jaisalmer to save them from horse-trading. However, Rajasthan BJP leader refused all the allegations. On 14th August 2020, the Ashok Gehlot Government won the trust vote and saved the Government.
